So, I'm quietly assembling bread stuffing, when my BiL starts my sister off by saying one of his staff was upset because she's losing two days of work a week. "Oh, the Single Mom that took her kid to Disney World? My sister said? the one that was having money problems, and had a yard sale, and then flew off to vacation in Florida? She's the one having money problems?" This is compassionate conservatism, no sympathy for someone who just found out they'd be losing 2/5ths of their income.
Not a peep from anyone, including my father and BiL who had been discussing whether we'd hit economic bottom yet. My father was saying, he'd really like to buy some Bank of America, it was probably as low as it was going to get. This was a good investment, because the government would never let certain companies go bankrupt, this could be a good deal. This is the same father that rails against welfare moms, and spending money on any kind of public infrastructure.
